Our executive management team has extensive experience in the field of medical professional liability insurance. Each individual brings special expertise to the mix, along with a thorough knowledge of the medical malpractice climate and marketplace. These professionals are dedicated to the HPIX mission of building long-term relationships with physicians we insure and partnerships that reduce risk.

 

Thomas S. Gaudiosi

Mr. Gaudiosi has performed over 30 years of extensive work in the field of health care insurance and risk management with a specific focus on professional liability for health care providers and institutions. He has held executive, marketing and consulting positions with insurance carriers such as CIGNA and PMSLIC/Infinity and with brokers/consultants, including Johnson & Higgins; Glenn, Nyhan & Associates; Jardine Insurance Brokers and Nichols & Associates. For the last seven years Mr. Gaudiosi has served as the President and CEO of American Healthcare Providers Insurance Services Company, LLC (American), a company that he co-founded, along with the insurance exchange it manages. He has guided the company's overall direction in Pennsylvania and subsequently led its operations into Maryland, New Jersey and Delaware. Mr. Gaudiosi holds a BA in communications and an MBA in health care administration from Temple University.

Mr. Detweiler has more than 30 years of insurance experience in claims, policyholder service and medical professional liability underwriting. Formerly, he served as Vice President of Underwriting at PMSLIC and Mutual Insurance Company of Arizona and was Senior Underwriter with The Medical Protective Company. Since joining HPIX in 2003, he has put together an experienced team in the underwriting, claims, risk management and information technology areas. Mr. Detweiler oversees all insurance operations in the four states in which HPIX operates.

Mr. Gaudiosi oversees the marketing and new business development efforts for American, the parent management company of HPIX. In this role he is responsible for managing agent and broker relationships, new business production, market research and new content development. Mr. Gaudiosi has led the company’s branding initiative as it changed its name to HPIX which included the design of company web sites and creation of marketing/sales materials. In addition, he is responsible for supporting business plan development and managing the ongoing relationship with strategic partners and vendors. Prior to joining American, Mr. Gaudiosi worked for a retail property and casualty insurance agency followed by four years at Towers Perrin Reinsurance. During that time he specialized in the brokering and placement of professional liability reinsurance for a variety of clients including some of the largest medical professional liability carriers in the country. Mr. Gaudiosi is a graduate of St. Joseph’s University, a member of the Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS) and a licensed property, casualty, life and health insurance broker and also holds a series 63 securities license.

Mr. Schleider, a CPA, has nearly 20 years of insurance industry experience. Serving as Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Schleider provides the company with experience in all areas of finance and accounting as well as corporate governance. In this role he is responsible for managing the finance and statutory accounting departments, which provide services to HPIX. Previously, Mr. Schleider served as American’s Controller. Before joining American, Mr. Schleider served as Assistant Vice President and Assistant Controller for Radian Group, a mortgage guaranty insurance company. Prior to that he held various accounting positions with Reliance Insurance Company, a property and casualty insurer. Mr. Schleider holds a BS in Accounting from Rider University and an MBA in Finance from St. Joseph’s University. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Mr. Jones is a former acute care hospital administrator, large medical practice administrator and is a nationally board certified Healthcare Compliance Officer. He is a frequent speaker before state, regional and national health care organizations. He has developed innovative patient safety-focused, hands-on risk management programs for health care organizations, physician groups, medical professional liability insurance companies, onshore and offshore captives and risk retention groups. Since joining HPIX, Mr. Jones has successfully built a library of continuing medical education content that was developed by various in-house authors, including himself, and several member physicians. He spends the majority of his time developing new risk management products and performing on site medical office practice assessments. In this role he focuses on assessment, implementation and compliance. He monitors HPIX early reporting standards within insured practices and provides feedback to physician clients so they understand the benefits of early reporting.

Mr. Marcavage has nearly 20 years of insurance technology experience. Prior to joining the Exchange, he was employed by both PMSLIC and the Glatfelter Insurance Group as Director of Information Technology. Mr. Marcavage is responsible for the IT systems supporting all underwriting and claims information. In addition, he and his team design customized IT solutions to meet the company’s growing needs. Mr. Marcavage holds a BS in Computer Science from Wilkes University and an MBA from York College of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Zimitski, a CPA, has 20 years of accounting experience. Previously, he served as Vice President and Controller for Cananwill, an insurance premium finance company. Prior to that, he held other accounting positions with Citibank and in certified public accounting. Mr. Zimitski is the team leader for the HPIX operational excellence initiative. In this role he has achieved economies of scale within the accounting department and deployed a new expense management system. Mr. Zimitski holds a BS in Business Administration (accounting concentration) from Millersville University and an MST from Philadelphia University. He is a member of the American and Pennsylvania Institutes of Certified Public Accountants.

Ms. Albright has over 20 years of insurance experience in medical and non medical professional liability areas. Prior to her employment as an underwriter for PA Hospital Insurance Company (PHICO), she was a producer for a property/casualty agency. Also, she has served as the Assistant Vice President/Manager for the Pennsylvania location for CRC Insurance Services, the nation’s leading wholesale broker, and for Crump of NY.

Mr. Bruno has 28 years of underwriting experience in medical liability and multiple lines. He began his career with St. Paul Insurance Company and subsequently spent 20 years in underwriting and management at Princeton Insurance Company. Mr. Bruno joined HPIX in 2004 and has demonstrated a strong commitment to client services. He manages HPIX’s underwriting in New Jersey and plays an integral role in maintaining broker relationships. Mr. Bruno is a graduate of Seton Hall University.

Ms. Wozny brings more than 25 years of insurance experience to HPIX. She began her medical professional liability career with the Medical Mutual Liability Insurance Society of Maryland. Subsequently, she managed and directed underwriting operations for several malpractice insurers in Illinois and most recently was employed by the Injured Workers' Insurance Fund in Maryland. Ms. Wozny has worked extensively with both medical and non-medical professional liability products and program development and manages HPIX’s underwriting in Maryland.

Ms. Toczylowski has held a variety of positions with American Healthcare Providers Insurance Services Company, LLC. Currently, she manages human resources for American and its subsidiary exchange, HPIX. She also serves as the Continuing Medical Education (CME) Coordinator for HPIX in the four states in which it operates. In this role she is the primary point of contact on matters related to CME programs provided by HPIX. Additionally, she maintains the CME Internet site used by all HPIX members. Ms. Toczylowski has extensive knowledge of CME processes and guidelines and possesses a background in customer service.

Dr. Etter is the Chair of the Department of Anesthesia at Abington Memorial Hospital and the former Chair of the Board of Infinity/RiskCare, a risk management company. As a practicing physician he represents the physician’s perspective in matters related to the insurance company’s corporate strategic plan. Dr. Etter brings extensive expertise in working with physicians, combined with a sharp business acumen. He is responsible for managing the risk management processes and practices that are provided to HPIX members. Dr. Etter is also a shareholder in the Abington Surgical Center, which he founded.
